I bet you'll never guess what we had yesterday in our ongoing quest for diabetic meals.

Yep, we had the pasta/sausage/mushroom thing again.

However, never fear.  Through the replies I've gotten, I am going to be getting some help.

All my thanks to Julianne and JennM who are going to help me through the maze of trying to eat healthily (is that a word?).  Anyway, as I learn from them, I will pass it on to you.

Well, it's been about two weeks since I've started living my healthy dieting lifestyle and I am down a total of 5 pounds.

What I've done right so far:

1)  Nighttime remains the hardest time for me not to eat.  I've allowed myself 1-2 treats.  If I'm really hungry, I'll have some hummus with chips and/or a Skinny Cow cone.  It's still a great less number of calories than I would normally consume.
2.  Watching the show "Hoarders" at night makes me lose my appetite. Something about bugs all over the refrigerator and microwave really makes me sick.
3)  I'm getting in about 5 glasses of water a day and only drinking one soda.  This isn't really that hard for me.  I've always only taken one sip from a soda and water doesn't bother me. The constant urination is difficult because of my OCD and difficulty using public bathrooms.
4. Fruits and vegetables - I hate fruits and vegetables and always have.  I've been forcing myself to eat one serving a day of fruit (usually an apple or a couple of apricots) a day.  I've gotten in a salad about 3X in a week, which is amazing for me.  I still have not, however, cultivated a taste for these things.
Picture
If anyone can tell me how it is they manage to eat this stuff everyday, I would really, really appreciate it.

5.  I'm taking all my vitamins and probiotics, high blood pressure medicine and some others I've thrown into the mix for good measure.
WHAT I'VE DONE WRONG
1)  I'm still not exercising; not even a walk, not even to go to a mall and stretch my legs - NOTHING! NADA! I would have gone to the pool by now (my favorite exercise), but I've still got that biopsy on my breast healing and I don't want to get chlorine on it.  Really...otherwise I really would have been exercising by now.
2)  I'm still eating too many carbs.  While I have been eating smaller portions, a good amount of calories still come from carbs.  I may only eat half of a sandwich, however, I'm still eating bread and white rice and white pasta. I know that stuff is really bad for me.

Picture
I just can't give these up.  I would definitely not be able to do something like Atkins because I think I would lose my mind.

Also, I have tried the lower carb pastas and it just doesn't taste good to me.

3.  My goal two weeks ago was to find more diabetic recipes and I just haven't found many yet.  I've actually got a grand total of 3, one of which I really like.  Most of the recipes have just way too many ingredients, so I keep repeating the same things all the time.  Also, I haven't really found anything that looks very tasty.

4)  Not tracking my food - Whether it's in a journal or sparkpeople.com, I'm not tracking it.  I will say one thing: On every diet I've ever done, when I track my food, I lose weight.  This is just purely laziness and I need to start dong it.
5)  I'm still bingeing on food
Memorial Day was pizza day.  I felt that I had gone so long without pizza.  So, I had pizza at the party, took some home with me (nope, no shame), ate it for dinner and then continued on into the night.

I mean, really, if you just eat pizza, how many calories could that be? Thoroughly enjoyed it and felt horrible the next day.
So, at the 2 week point, I've done ok, could've done better, but the scale is moving in the right direction.

I have one goal for this next week:

Exercise 3X this week.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Emily, a bachelor and Dolly Parton at Dollywood
I know I was on the fence about keeping up with this season's bachelorette show because it just seemed really lame.

I thought I'd give it another shot last night and Oh. My. Gosh. It was so freaking hysterical.

We begin the episode with Princess Em's (Emily Maynard) mother waking her up with "good morning sunshine" and a  breakfast tray that rivals anything you get at the Four Seasons.

Emily, of course, looked really pretty, but she had one of those really tight headbands around her head.  It looked really uncomfortable and how did she not wake up with a big headache?

An aside:  Some of this might be out of order because I didn't take notes. I was just laughing too hard.

It's group date time and Emily decides she's going to have her soccer mom friends check out the group date bachelors at the park and they really took to the task.  These women acted like they hadn't seen fresh meat like that in years.  Strangely enough, her friends looked 10-20 years older than Emily. Anyhoo, they took on the task very seriously.  They asked for push-ups from the men, they asked for one guy to take off his shirt, they were really making the most of the situation. They threw in some questions about fidelity, and other matters of minor interest to them.

Then, the guys find out they got a whole playground of kids to come and play with. I was laughing my ass off.  Instead of jetting around, having some really wild dates, fun in the sun with yachts, these guys are put to the test with kids and soccer moms.  Man, these guys must be so bummed.

Then, one of the bachelors, not sure which one, went to talk with Emily while she was gabbing with her friends, and fell into the trap of would he still love Emily if she gained weight.  He stupidly said that he would "still love her but wouldn't love ON her."  Big Red Flag there.  All the women gave him the stink-eye. He didn't really care because not being with a fat woman is really, really, important to him.

She then goes on a single date with Chris.  They're going to have dinner, but first they had to scale some building to get to the restaurant while it was lightning outside.  Are these complete morons or what?

Chris The Bachelorette
Well, Chris showed his faithfulness by sticking close to Emily while she was whining how scared she was and he also said all the right words about Little Ricki.  He got the rose.

As the group date went out to eat that night, one bachelor was crying in the alley about missing his 5-year old son.  He called his son on the phone, he was teary eyed, he was a mess.  Along comes Emily and, in a very clever way, basically told him he didn't have a chance with her so he might as well go home and be with his son.  Bye-bye!

Anyway, the next single date is Arie, who is a race car driver.  His is the only name I can remember for some reason.

He actually seems like a really nice guy.

They set off for one of Princess Em's favorite places:  DOLLYWOOD!
WOW!  Thank, Em. Always wanted to go to Dollywood.

They walk around where it looks like they're the only people there and they get on a roller-coaster where suddenly a bunch of people have materialized. Emily's acting like the roller-coaster was some form of water torture and starts whining/crying.  The only good part was that it was the first time she spent more than 5 minutes not picking at her hair. (which drives me nuts; just ask my friend, Melanie).

Anyway, they get done, they go to some sort of stage and there's paper and a pencil and a note telling them to write a love song.

So, they sit awhile and lo and behold, is it possible? Are my eyes deceiving me?  IT'S DOLLY PARTON! THE DOLLY PARTON!  "Arie, why are you not as excited as I am? Oh my gosh, DOLLY PARTON knows my name and she's singing a song just for me.  Well...for you too, I guess."

I've pretty much farked up my eyebrows with too much plucking, waxing, using pencils that were too rough on my brows and they were really starting to get thin.  I've even tried to just not pluck them at all for awhile and nothing was really working.  However, I have found this product which gives me my eyebrows back, or rather, the illusion of more eyebrows:

BLINC EYEBROW MOUSSE

Picture
http://www.amazon.com/Blinc-Eyebrow-Mousse
When I first got it and applied it, I didn't like it at all and figured it was going to the back of the closet (with all the other rejects). After I looked at some comments on this stuff, I started doing what they said: Before you put the applicator to your eyebrows, take a tissue and rub through the applicator to get some of the product off.  You also want to use it in small strokes. You'll get a much more natural look.  It's also great for covering up grey eyebrows.

I mean, I love this stuff.  It stays on all day, no worrying about it running.  I even sat (sort of in the sun) today and it never ran.  (Sun--skin's enemy) You can remove it with just soap and water.

The cost is $18.11, which is quite a savings from what I paid for it - $24.00.

The colors are:  Auburn, black, dark blonde, grey, light blonde, dark brunette, light brunette.

I did get it in black and wish I had gone with the dark brunette.  Actually, I don't know why I didn't.  Sometimes when I order something late at night, I don't quite get it right. Anyway, even in the black, it still looks really good and natural.

So, you can get it from blinc.com or from Amazon.com

I hope you like it as much as I do.

Memorial Day this year is especially important as we are reminded
almost daily of the great sacrifices that the men and women of the Armed
Services make to defend our way of life.

THE GIFTS:

I know that the economy's in the tank; that everyone's watching their money and trying to conserve.  However, should you find yourself winning the lottery or you just happen to be feeling particularly kind toward me, here's a few things that would be more than welcome:

"Zoe" Printed Charmeuse Dress

This dress is, without a doubt, my favorite looking dress of the season. Everything about it, from the colors to the style, is stunning.  (I wouldn't however, wear those ugly shoes with this.)

This is from monifc.com and sells for $208.00.

If you decide to get this for me, please order early so I can wear it out to dinner on my birthday.

3.1 Phillip Lim "Kiara"

These shoes are beyond sexy. I love the canvas platform with the white stripe and elastic straps.

I saw these on the barneys.com website.

These are only $695.00 and. since I consider these a classic, they will probably last a lifetime; hence, making these an official "investment".

If for some reason, these items are all sold out or you don't really want to pick up 3 or 4 extra jobs to pay for it, I'll be happy to receive that Amazon.com gift card for $25.00.  There's a pair of jeans I could really use.

I KNOW...I KNOW...IT'S THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS.
