WEDDING HAIRDOS FOR THE PLUS SIZE BRIDE

TOP 10 CONSIDERATIONS TO TAKE INTO PLANNING YOUR WEDDING HAIRDO

PLUSSIZEHAIR1

1.  As soon as you get your dress, begin thinking about the hairstyle that is going to complement the style of your dress.

2.  Is it an evening or day wedding?  That, also can influence the style of your hair.

3.  Take your face shape into account.  If you have a round face, sometimes wearing your hair down looks best.  Another great style for a round face is half-up/half-down with some curls for a more formal look

4. A hairstyle with close sides and a high crown both adds height and slims the face.

weddinghairdo2

5.  Bangs can have a slimming affect; however, they need to be cut just right. (No straight-across the forehead bangs.)  Go for asymmetrical or whispy

6.  Do not decide to make a major color change right before your wedding.

7.  A square shaped face looks great with an updo.

8.  Do not let anyone talk you into a hairstyle you are not comfrotable with.

9. Hair extensions are great to pump up the volume of your hair.

10.  Try not to get too trendy.  You don’t want to shudder when you look at your pictures 10 years later

These three hairstyles were found on the Weddingbee.com messageboards where someone asked for hairstyles for a plus-size bride:

PLUS-SIZE WEDDING SHOES ARE WOEFULLY INADEQUATE

Open Letter to the Plus Size Shoe Designers and Manufacturers:
CAMRYNSHOECamryn Bridal Platform Shoe by Coloriffics ebay for $99.95

As I’m researching the best wide-width wedding shoes for this post, I can’t help but notice some reallyyyyy ugly shoes. In fact, it’s pretty disgraceful. So we’re fat or curvy or whatever; you are expecting us to wear shoes that look like white orthopedic shoes with maybe a bow stuck on top. The wide-width wedding shoe choices are woefully inadequate. We do appreciate the designers now making gowns that fit us, so why can’t you follow suit and ‘throw us a bone’ and put in a few fashionable wedding shoes for us to pick out?

Here are a couple of tips on picking out your wide-width wedding shoes:
HINTS^TIPS

1. COMFORT, COMFORT, COMFORT. No matter how cute the shoe, if your feet are killing you, it will make you miserable on your wedding day. You want them to fit perfectly when you try them on. Don’t go on the assumption that “you’ll wear them in”. It never works.

2.  Wear your usual style of shoes. If you’re mostly a flats lady, then go with a small heel or flat wedding shoe.

3.  Try your new shoes on in the afternoon when your feet have had time during the day to swell a little. First thing in the morning is when your feet are at their smallest.

4.  Think of wearing 2 different styles of shoes on your wedding day; the first pair the platform heels that you are dying for and the second pair, the nice comfortable ones to dance in. Your feet will thank you.

5.  Don’t forget to match the embellishments of your dress with your shoes.

For further information, Here are my top 10 wedding shoe considerations.

These shoes are what I’ve found after spending hours on the internet trying to find some great wide-width and extra wide-width wedding shoes out there:

DYABLESRUNWAY1. Dyeables Woman’s Runway at shoes.com

These pretty shoes come in Silver Metallic, Gold Metallic and Bronze Metallic.

I’m not really sure why they are called, ‘dyeables’ when they are, in fact, NOT DYEABLE!

These sell for $68.99 and go from a size 6 W to 11W.

. MAYA IVORY2.  Maya Ivory 5917 by MyPerfectWeddingShoes.com – $73.90

These are some of the most elegant bridal shoes I’ve seen.
I love the satin bow.
Description:  Ivory matte satin shoes with a satin bow accented with a rhinestone decoration  in the center.  Not recommended for tinting. (Shown here in white.) Heel:  3″ Sizes:  M 5-10, 11  W 6 1/2-10 SALE PRICE:  $73.90 Regularly:  $84.00
roslyn3. Roslyn 646 at myperfectweddingshoes.com
Description:  Satin dyeable flat with bow.
These flats are the ‘new’ ballet shoes. Heel:  1 1/4″ Sizes:  M 5-11, 12   W 6-11, 12 SALE PRICE:  $46.90 Regularly:  $60.00
I found these at dsw.com. I really do like them
.According to dsw.com. these shoes have a satin upper; Jeweled brooch at round peep toe; 1″ platform and 4 1/4″ satin covered heel’ synthetic sole; imported. These sell for $59.94 (originally $129.00) and come in sizes 7-11 in Wide Widths

coloriffics5.  Coloriffics Divine Dyeable White Satin Slingback #5821 Rhinestone Ornamentation $46.80
I have found the most beautiful wide width wedding shoes on ebay.  Many are brand new in the box and the prices are really good. These only come in a size 8 or 9 in a Wide (C, D, W).They sell for $46.80.
CONCLUSION:  It is very hard to find really beautiful wide-width wedding shoes. ebay.com actually turned out to be the best for nice looking wedding shoes.I had hopes of finding some really nice choices for those of us who wear wide shoes and it just wasn’t out there on the Internet.Especially disturbing were the number of stores that touted themselves as carrying extra-wide wedding shoes and finding most of them were Medium width or only wide in some off-size that hardly any woman would fit into.

If you know of any place that I’ve been unable to find plus-size wedding shoes, I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW ABOUT IT!

PLUS SIZE WEDDING: PICKING YOUR BRIDAL VEIL OR HEADPIECE

Many Brides Do Not Realize that the Wedding Veil or Headpiece is Just as Important as the Wedding Gown

fantasyweddingveil

Brides tend to spend so much time picking out the perfect wedding dress and then a very short amount of time on the veil or headpiece.  There will be just as many, if not more, pictures of you in face shots with the veil.

10 QUICK RULES IN PICKING OUT YOUR WEDDING VEIL:

1.  The formality of the wedding will determine the style of the veil. Are you getting married in a Cathedral or in an outdoor rustic-style ceremony?  Try to keep your veil balanced to the venue and style of the wedding.
2.  Your veil should complement your dress.

3.  The simpler the wedding dress, the more elaborate your veil can be.
4.  Take your hairstyle into consideration; you can wear a veil  at the top of your head or at the back of the head under your hairdo.
5. If you don’t want your veil to be worn after the ceremony, it is very easy to have the veil designed so that you can esily remove the veil and just have the headpiece.  Some believe that the bride should only wear the veil until she is married.
6.  Keep your accents of the veil the same as those in your dress, tiara and veil.

7. Don’t be afraid to step out of the box. Go with some beautiful tiaras, combs that are jewel-encrusted, barettes, anything really that you love.  Make certain that when you go for your hair trial that you bring your headpiece and/or veil with you.
8,  You need to decide if you want a blusher, that part of the veil that covers your face until lifted by either the father of the bride or the groom.
9.  Take your face shape into consideration.  Read THIS for a great tutorial on what veils go with what face shapes.
10.  Two-tiered bridal veils are almost always more flattering on the bride, as they are fuller and frame your face beautifully on both sides.

FINDING THE PERFECT PLUS-SIZE MOTHER OF THE BRIDE OR MOTHER OF THE GROOM DRESS

PLUS-SIZE MOTHER OF THE BRIDE or GROOM DRESSES

MOTHEROFTHEBRIDEAdrianna Papell Iridescent Chiffon Petal Gown (Plus); nordstrom.com

Looking for that perfect Mother of the Bride or Mother of the Groom Plus-Size dress is easier than ever.  There are so many beautiful choices and many in a wide range of sizes.  For example, the above Adrianna Papell dress comes in sizes 14W – 24W. There are so many choices now than ever to make you feel fabulous!

TOP 5 TIPS FOR FINDING THE BEST LOOKING MOTHER OF THE BRIDE OR MOTHER OF THE GROOM DRESSES

1.  Try to find a style that will define your waist, such as an A-line, sheath, tea lengh and cocktail style, while still feeling comfortable to you.

2.  A bolero, matching jacket, or sheer shawl can look very sophisticated. Especially nice if you are self-conscious of your arms.
3.
Go for modesty. You don’t want to show alot of skin. According to weddingshoppeinc.,..” don’t wear a dress that flaunts or exposes too much of you, and keep your necklines modest, your fit classy, and your color moderate.”

“As comfortable as jersey knit or chiffon is, it isn’t the most flattering fabric
on every size body. Finding a mother of the bride slimming dress is easy when  you look for structured materials such as satin, taffeta, brocade or dupion silk.  These fabrics tend to skim the body  versus clinging to the body like chiffon and  knit blends.”
4.   Take your cue from the bride’s dress on how formal or informal you should be dressed. Don’t shy away from wearing colors.

5.  It is traditional for the bride’s mother to choose her dress first; then the groom’s mother will follow her lead in color, length and style.

You May Want to Pass On This Pinterest Idea At Your Wedding

I Love Pinterest As Much as Anyone, but let’s Face It, Not Every Idea is a Good One.

Picture

I love My Pinterest and have come upon many great ideas, but when I came upon this, as a fun idea at your wedding  …well, can I just say…911!

Picture Smore Bar. Repinned from Wedding Ideas by Katie Plukas Smore Bar. Repinned from Wedding Ideas by Katie Plukas

Oh my gosh. This just makes me laugh my ass off!

This is one of those ideas that sounds good in theory, but in practice…not so good.

The list of possible calamaties that follow such an activity are tremendous, especially if you’re planning on serving alcohol at your wedding.

If you just cannot resist the idea of a s’more table, there are, however, several ways of making this work:

1)  Each guest has his/her own fire extinguisher neaby;
2)  Only the designated driver is allowed to make the s’mores for that particular table;
3)  A firetuck is waiting nearby and an ambulance for all those 3rd degree burns;
4)  Do not have any clothing on you that isn’t fire retardant;
5)  Finally; have your guests wear one of those ove gloves…you know. those things that make it so you can get your hot  dishes out of the stove, without burning yourself.

Picture

Sure, this won’t have that chic look of the people in the above picture, however, SAFETY FIRST, RIGHT?  Plus, who wants to get sued at their own wedding?

Have you come across any really crazy, if not downright irresponsible, ideas on Pinterest? I’d love to hear about them.

Terani Couture Dress at therosedress.com
Item #TE-M1161

How gorgeous is this dress? I love the Ivory/Black combination.

This comes in sizes 6-24 and sells for $649.00.

This dress is really like a work of art.

Surprisingly, the site, therosedress.com. doesn’t give alot of information on their dresses, however, they do have a live-chat feature.

Here’s another one from therosedress.com that I think is gorgeous:

PictureTheRoseDress.com Item# JJ-13179L

Josh and Jazz Item #JJ-13179L from therosedress.com.

This black/white outfit would be so beautiful in a black/white themed wedding.

This comes in sizes 18-24 and costs $335.00.

(There are so many gorgeous dresses on this site and I don’t understand why they give out so little information or description; unless it’s because they want you to use the LiveChat. Either way, it’s frustrating and kind of a shame since I’ve fallen in love with so many of their dresses.)  They also have dresses that go 6X or higher.

Don’t discount the idea of wearing a stunning pantsuit. They are perfectly acceptable now and some of them are truly gorgeous.

You can see that it is possible to look very glamorous and still be comfortable.

Don’t forget your accessories (nothing too small) and some beautiful shoes.

PICKING YOUR WEDDING VEIL OR HEADPIECE

Your Wedding Veil or Headpiece is Just as Important as your Dress

Weddings Part 2: The Veil

(To See Part I – The Wedding Gown – go HERE)

Brides tend to spend so much time picking out the perfect wedding dress and then a very short amount of time on the veil or headpiece.  There will be just as many, if not more, pictures of you in face shots with the veil.

In my own wedding, I spent about 1/3 of the cost of my wedding dress on a wreath of porcelain flowers and tiny satin bows.  I actually liked it more than my dress.

10 QUICK RULES IN PICKING OUT YOUR WEDDING VEIL:

THE PERFECT PLUS-SIZED WINTER WEDDING GOWN

What to Consider when Buying Your Winter Wedding Gown

Picture

This is the first in a Series on ‘THE WINTER WEDDING”.

PART 1 – THE GOWN

Winter weddings tend to get short shrift compared to the summer weddings; however, some of the most beautiful weddings are held in the Fall and Winter.

Some things to consider in “winterizing” your gown:

Remember:  Winter Weddings give you the permission to go a little more glamorous!

1.  You can still wear the sleeveless sheaths and and strapless gowns, just consider wearing a beautiful embroidered wrap, cashmere shawl or a long matching coat. A faux fur stole can be gorgeous…perfect for taking wedding pictures outside.

2.  In the Fall and Winter, heavier fabrics, such as pure silk, taffeta, satins and Battenberg lace are used on your dress.

3.  Winter is the time for embellishments, such as an ornate bodice, sparkly crystals and tulle with pearls, beadwork and shimmer. (Just don’t go overboard.)

4. Don’t dismiss the idea of different hues than the standard white. There are icy blues and blush pinks (the color I wore at my wedding) , silvers.

5.  For those of us not really fond of the way our arms look, this is the season for the 3/4 or full length sleeves or opera length gloves.

6.  I love the ice princess look with the gorgeous jewelry more suitable to the winter wedding.

Picture

I love this look so much (as long as it’s faux fur).  It’s just perfect winter wedding!

7.  Make certain that your bridesmaids are also kept warm. Matching shawls among the women would be wonderful.

Picture

8. Take your venue into consideration. Are you being married in a grand ballroom or in a small intimate ski lodge?

9.  Take your figure into account.  There is a style that is perfect for each figure type.

10. You know what you’re most comfortable in, whether it is the princess ball gown type or the vintage, unique look.

Here are some great informative articles on the winter wedding:
